Upgrade Your Holiday Shopping With Extra Cash From Energy Bill Savings

Three Tips for Smarter HVAC Energy Use and Savings

If, like most people, homeowners are looking for more ways to save money this holiday season, look no further than the home’s HVAC system. By having the heating and air conditioning system run more efficiently, homeowners can reduce their energy use and save on their utility bills, allowing some extra cash for the holiday shopping list. Read on for three ways to improve the energy efficiency of the heating system and save.

Choose a Smart or Programmable Thermostat

Smart thermostats go beyond allowing homeowners to program their desired settings like programmable thermostats. Smart thermostats also give greater flexibility by allowing people to control settings remotely and offer more energy-saving features and options, which leads to lower heating and cooling costs.

Make Sure the Air Filter Is Clean

It also has a great deal to do with energy efficiency. Air filters are supposed to catch and trap airborne particles like dust, dirt, and other allergens, which prevents them from circulating in the home or getting stuck in the HVAC system. But when the air filter is dirty and has gone too long without being replaced, it slows down airflow and causes the system to work harder and use more energy, increasing energy costs.

Needless to say, a dirty air filter is bad for energy efficiency. This is why conducting regular air filter replacements is essential, typically at least every three months. However, it’s recommended to check them every month and replace them as soon as they appear dirty for good indoor air quality, energy efficiency, and savings.

Regular HVAC Maintenance Is Important

When it comes to the HVAC system, both air conditioner maintenance and heater maintenance must be done to ensure the system is running smoothly and isn’t experiencing any breakdowns that could hamper its performance and efficiency. This is important because an HVAC system in tip-top shape will be more energy efficient, resulting in greater savings.

As a bonus, a well-maintained HVAC system is also less prone to needing repairs or early replacements, so homeowners won’t have to worry about spending money unnecessarily on fixing or replacing the heater or AC. They can spend that money instead on some well-deserved holiday shopping. It is recommended to schedule heating maintenance once a year in the fall and AC maintenance once a year in the spring.
